I was asked to photograph this movie by a wonderful director Donald Sturruck. Sophie Beecher our wonderfully talented Production designer and i , worked hard to create a magical forest on a sound stage in London.Of course Julie Waters was a hoot to work with , permanently witty and able to punctuate any self reverential pomposity with a well aimed barb but always delivered with warmth and respect for others. I was lucky to visit Roald Dahls home foe ` pre shoot party and Lizzie Dahl room me down to his cellar and allowed me to enjoy a bottle or two of his much loved red wines played down over his life. All in all a dream project with everyone including the producer pulling in the same direction.
