MIKE SOUTHON bsc

Shot in 1966 , with help from a work colleague who had an 8mm camera. My first drama demonstrates a distinct taste for

the darker. The film has been lost since it was made until 2 months ago when the star of the film contacted me to

say a copy had been found in her loft near Brighton. It made my day and brought back many memories .

thanks to Maggie Langton.

The story is just about clear, I think.

I had read a  book about simple film editing and had watched horror films late at night on television.

That and a somewhat vivid imagination contributed t the final product.

I had already experimented with stop frame animation in my bedroom including bringing a plasticine hand to life .

The genesis of THE HAND can be seen in the clip next to this one entitles "EARLY STOP MOTION"
