The Mermaid Chair was shot for Lifetime, based on the #1 New York Times Best Seller, The Mermaid Chair, by Sue Monk Kidd. "The Mermaid Chair” tells the haunting story of a married woman (Kim Basinger) who falls in love with a Benedictine monk and the crisis and self-awakening it ignites within her. There was some nervousness on the part of the producers and Ms.Basinger about shooting this in HD ( panavised f900) in the bright summer light of Vancouver. I tested a number of filters and in the end found a combination that worked with the Panavised f900 Camera. I used large soft white reflectors to fill in the shadows without causing eye strain on the actors and worked closely with Kim’s make up artist Ronnie Spector to ensure a look that pleased seem to please everyone including myself.
